  6. Hi, can someone contact me and let me know why I’m not able to pull up my group? I didn’t do anything wrong or try to sell anything, or make rude comments, so I don’t know why they kicked me out, if that’s what happened. You can look at my post and comments and tell me what I did wrong, at least. I don’t get it.

  7. It looks like the South Wheaton (IL) group has shut down. Any reason why? Do they need someone to take it over, I would be willing.

  10. Hi, I have completed the online form a couple of times and emailed (Sep 15) about setting up a group in Burnie, Tasmania.
I still haven’t heard anything back and I am keen to progress this. Could someone please get back to me
    Cheers 🙂

  11. Hi Gemma,

I can confirm we have received both of your inquiries for a group to be created for Tasmania. The Development Admin for your area will contact you via the email you submitted. Please have patience, this process is done in our volunteers’ free time, as such a reply may take some time, but I assure you they will respond. Currently there is a backlog of several weeks, due to the huge increase in interest; our Development Team is working diligently through the requests for new groups as quickly as they are able.

We are looking forward to having you join the Admin Team!

  18. Is there a ‘buy nothing’ group in Willetton?

  19. I would like to start a page for the Midland area, there is no option for this area, quite odd as it is a large area in need of help.

  20. As a long time Non-fan of Facebook and a hold-out from getting a Facebook account, I am curious how to find a local Buy Nothing group. I realize it would be difficult (but not impossible) to start a group without using Facebook, but I can imagine that it is possible to find one without having a Facebook account.

Does anyone know of a group that has formed in Ukiah CA or in Redwood Valley CA? And if so, a way to contact them without Facebook.

You can reach me at [removed]

  21. Hi I am from Murfreesboro ten and would love to start a group here!

  23. There is no group in our area but I’d love one but I do not have a computer just my phone. I’m in Torrington Wyoming. I’m sure I know someone who could be an admin.

  24. I’m not on facebook. Can I still join?

  25. I am interested in starting a buy nothing group in my area. I live in Poplarfield, Manitoba. A small town in a rural community. Arborg, Manitoba is 20 miles east and Fisher Branch, Manitoba is 15 miles north. All located in the Manitoba interlake.

  27. Good morning

  28. Hello, I submitted around a week ago the form to open a buy nothing group in my community in Packer Park Philadelphia and I haven’t received any feedback yet I’m just wondering if you received my request

    Angie Medero-Gallelli

  29. Good Morning,

I requested to start a buy nothing group in my area, (Pittsboro, NC but it may be better to have it the entire county as we are a rural county) on Saturday but have not gotten a response yet. I’ve checked my message requests and have not seen any requests as well as checking my spam. I have another friend who is willing to admin the group with me. Is there an estimated time that I should be contacted?

    Thanks,
    Sheen

  30. Hello! As am learning about your group, I would like to join. I live in Upstate New York in a town call Little Falls, from the town of Herkimer. I do not see any groups from my area or even close enough , Albany is a bit far from me. Sadly I don’t want to start a group myself because I don’t know anyone here. I just moved and all my Facebook friends and family live in New York City so I would have anyone to add to begin with. Don’t know what to do.

  32. Hi Marlena,

If there isn’t a Buy Nothing group yet in your community (check this list which is updated frequently https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ ), we’d love to see a gift economy started where you are. We just need a local volunteer to join us as admin (our entire network is run by volunteers).

If you’re interested in becoming an Admin, please fill out the form you will find on the page in the following link. Once you have done so, the Development Admin for your area will contact you. 33. Hello I have a free crib/cot to give away. Hugely sentimental and to beautiful to put out on the side of road! Anyone want it? Needs a little paint job in places otherwise 100% in good order!

  34. Hi Joyce,

We actually ask our members to not delete their posts in our Buy Nothing groups.

You can learn more about this in this section of our FAQs here:
    https://buynothingproject.org/about/faqs/#OldPosts

Thanks for being a member of our social experiment!

  35. Hi Sandy,

All of the Buy Nothing Project groups use facebook, yes … and people often ask us why we chose Facebook as our platform for The Buy Nothing Project. 1) It’s free; 2) Most of our friends and neighbors are on Facebook; and 3) It’s transparent. Transparency is the key ingredient to keeping a gift economy sustainable over time.

Though there are some limitations to Facebook, the BNP is a network of groups completely run by Volunteers, without a budget (or time) to put the effort required into developing and maintaining a stand-alone site at this time. We require all of our members to be a member of Facebook.

Thanks for your interest in the Project!

  37. Hi Elizabeth,

I hope you have been able to join your local Buy Nothing group. Sometimes it can take a bit of time for an Admin to get members verified, especially during busier times of the year like near the holidays.

Also if you have not been admitted yet there is a chance someone has already sent you a Facebook message.

  46. Hi Dinora,

I personally started as an Admin just after moving, I didn’t know anyone either. But starting the group helped me to get to know people, who actually lived in my neighborhood. I suggest you think on it a bit, and consider being an Admin, once you are you have access to a whole global network of Admins, who work together. We will help you out, you will never be alone!
