Trying to reach us?

We can only respond to questions about our mission, open source documents, philosophy and history. You can reach us about these subjects via email to thebuynothingproject@gmail.com.

All issues pertaining to local group rule changes, leadership, members, and the like need to be brought directly to those groups. The Buy Nothing Project acts as a resource for people around the world who want to set up their own gift economy groups, but these groups are all locally created and managed. Local group leaders are solely responsible for what happens in their groups. If you have an issue that can’t be resolved, we encourage you to set up your own new group using the tools provided on this website. Visit our Start A Group page to find out how.

Looking for a Buy Nothing Project group for your community?

  2. Hi! I’m looking to join a group and live in South Lake Union on the corner of Mercer and Republican. Which group should I join?
    Thanks,
    Heidi

  3. It is an amazing project. I have set-up a similar stuff. Heal the world in my country Cameroon and I know with God’s grace millions of people will be touch too. I was reading a news head line on Reuters where the buy nothing project was highlighted. Getting into your site I was overwhelmed within me. I got the scripture Acts 20:35b it is blessed to give than to receive. God bless you.

Hello! I would like to start one of these groups for my community. There presently isn’t one. Thank you!

  5. HI!

I just moved to Madrona a year and a half ago and there’s no BUYNOTHING group set up from what I can tell. I tried to join the East Cap Hill option, but never was granted. I’d be happy to coordinate one for Madrona and possibly Leshi / Northi Central District (or whatever the formal name of our community around MLK is – I can do the research and find out). If there is one already started that I’ve missed, please let me know!

  6. Thank you, Bonley! What kind and amazing words! We have groups all around the world with neighbors sharing and caring right in their own community. If you ever have a desire to start a group in your own town, we would be happy to get one going for you – we just need a willing volunteer to administer the site.

Thanks so much for you interest in our project!

    Hi
I’d love to join your group if you have one started in the Hudson valley, Ulster country, NY area.

The premise behind such a group is inspiring to me
    Sincerely

  9. I need to find a used refrigarator my husband and I need one desperately. My daughter is ill with cancer and we are taking care of our 3 grandchildren on our social security. We live in the boulder creek area in the Santa Cruz mountains

  10. HI Christine 🙂 Thanks for your interest! If you’ve checked the list https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ and there isn’t a group for your community, we’d love to have a group in your neighborhood!
To start a group (or learn more about what would be involved in doing so https://buynothingproject.org/start-a-group/ ), the next step is to follow up with a Development admin. You will need to work together to define a manageable area. (A map you can both access may be helpful in this process.) Please feel free to send us an email directly with information about where you reside, so you can take a look at the details for starting a group in your area.
The email address is thebuynothingproject [at sign] gmail. At the moment — just so you know what to expect — we’re all volunteers, many with families and jobs, and there has recently been a huge influx of new-group requests. Thanks in advance for your patience!

  14. Hello! I’d love to join one of your groups! I sent request to be added to this group a few weeks ago: https://www.facebook.com/groups/282433458603541/

However I have not been added to the group. I want to give away a new paperback book, “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg, German translation. I was hoping I would find a student taking German language class that would benefit. Keep up the good work, thanks so much for creating this community!

  16. Hi, Patricia! Did you find the hyper-local Buy Nothing community group for your area? Below are the links for Buy Nothing Meridian, ID. 17. Hi, Barbara! So glad you are enjoying your group and want to help your friend find a group near where they live in California. I don’t see a group for Vallejo yet, but if your friend or someone else in the area wants to start a group, we are happy to help get one going! We are also adding groups all the time, so your friend can have a look at the list, and copy/paste the link for your neighborhood into your browser, which will then give you an option to ‘request to join.’ https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ Thanks for your interest in our social experiment!

  18. Hi, Nancy! Were you able to join your local group? I have reached out to the local admins in your prospective group and we will work to get you added in as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that all new members are asked to respond to a private message requesting some information to verify their membership eligibility and that you are being added to the right group. Make sure to check your Filtered Messages and Message Requests as these private messages often end up hidden in those folders when you aren’t friends with the local admins. You can also send a private message to any of the local admins in that group and they will work to get you added in. Let me know if you are still having issues. Thanks for your interest in our social experiment!

  20. Hi, Linda! Thanks for reaching out to us. Please send a private message to the local admin of the group you are trying to join. They will send you a private message via Facebook (you don’t have to use Messenger – you can access messages in any browser or on the Facebook app). Before you can be added, all prospective members must verify a few pieces of information with their local admins. Make sure to check your Filtered Messages and Message Requests (on Facebook) as private messages often end up here if you aren’t friends with the local admin who might be sending it. Let us know if you are still having issues. Thank you for your interest in our social experiment!
