  1. […] Buy Nothing Project – Facebook groups for many areas […]

    • Dear Buy Nothing Group,

I would be happy to set up a group in South Buckinghamshire in the UK. We have an active Freegle group but Buy Nothing seems like it would also be suitable for the last pint of milk in the fridge before going away on holiday etc rather than just furniture and big items.

      Best wishes

  2. We don’t have a group in Northern NJ – Bergen/Passaic Counties.

    • Hi Noreen! Thank you for your interest in joining a local group in the Buy Nothing Project network. If there isn’t a group yet for your community in Bergen County or Passaic County, and we’d love to see one started for your neighborhood … We just need a local volunteer to join us as an admin (our entire network is run by volunteers). Let us know if you’re interested!

  3. Hi! I required about starting a group in Duluth, MN a few weeks ago. I know you are volunteer led, just wanted to remind you if it didn’t come thru. Thanks! -Jen V.

    • Hi Julie, The list of active Buy Nothing Project gift economies is available online here: https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ It’s updated frequently, so please check back if there’s not one near you. And if you’d like to learn more about what it takes to start one, and you might be willing to serve as a volunteer admin, send us an email and we can get you more info. Thanks for your interest!

  10. Hello, I see that you do not have a single group for the state of Wyoming. I cannot promise to admin a group up front but would like to know what it entails. Can you please send me some information? I live in Cheyenne which is in the southeast corner of the state. I can admin a facebook group but could not at this time host a meeting at a location. So, I hope I can help because I would love to participate. Thank you.

    • Hello! If there isn’t a Buy Nothing group yet in your community (check this list which is updated frequently https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ ), we’d love to see a gift economy started where you are. We just need a local volunteer to join us as admin (our entire network is run by volunteers).

To be an admin requires anywhere from a few minutes a day to a few hours per week – you get to choose how much energy you want to put into it. Because we are all volunteers, we find time between the rest of our busy lives to make this amazing experiment work and you would have a regional admin who can give you a hand in getting your new group started. We are all about community, so know that you would never have to go it alone! And, the wonderful thing about creating Buy Nothing on Facebook is that you don’t necessarily need a place to host anything. You give where you live with the neighbors on your street and in your community. Any events that happen are completely up to the group itself.

Let us know if you’re interested – send a message to thebuynothingproject@gmail.com with your location details, and we’ll start from there!

  18. Is there a buy nothing group for Mt Hawthorn is Western Australia? If not I would be interested in starting one! Cheers Tara

  19. Hi! I’m in Seguin, TX (population around 25k people). The closest group listed is for Schertz which is 22 miles away. I’d love to volunteer as an administrator for a local group. Please contact me and help me get started! Also is it possible to include other nearby small towns? Half an hour away we have San Marcos which is about 50k people and there are a smattering of nearby small towns in this general area. Texas is all spread out.:) Most of the Facebook “sale” groups will include several nearby small towns (I run one of those groups). I was thinking of starting a barter only group and someone suggested instead I look in to the BuyNothing project instead and it’s exciting and I’d love to make it happen here.

    Thanks!

Hi, noticed there’s not a group in the mount pocono area of PA, WOULD LOVE TO BE PART OF ONE!

    • Hello Mary, Thanks for your interest! If you’ve checked the list https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ and there isn’t a group for your community, we’d love to have a group in your neighborhood! To start a group in your neighborhood (or learn more about what would be involved in doing sohttps://buynothingproject.org/start-a-group/ ), the next step is to follow up with a Development admin. You will need to work together to define a manageable area. (A map you can both access may be helpful in this process.) Please feel free to send us an email directly with information about where you reside, so you can take a look at the details for starting a group in your area.
The email address is thebuynothingproject [at sign] gmail. At the moment — just so you know what to expect — we’re all volunteers, many with families and jobs, and there has recently been a huge influx of new-group requests. Thanks in advance for your patience!
