Find a Group

logo-square-lg

We are thrilled for you to join us in this amazing experiment. Just find your community in the list below, and click. The embedded link will take you directly to Facebook, where you can request to join your local group by clicking on ‘Join Group’.

Once you have selected “Join Group”, Facebook will present you with 3 questions to answer. Please answer all three questions so that an admin can approve your request.
If you are unable to view these questions, or you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to send a message to the volunteer named in the Group Description to verify your eligibility to join the group.

Remember: You can join only one Buy Nothing Project group, the group where you live so you can literally “give where you live.” This is what builds community. Please request to join only one group. If it is the wrong one for your location, an admin will assist you in finding the right group.

If there’s no Buy Nothing group in your home community and you’re willing to be a local admin for the group, click here to learn how to start your own Buy Nothing Project group.

Best of luck with your search for some curtains or blinds!

    • Hi Lourdes!

If there isn’t a Buy Nothing group yet in your community (check this list which is updated frequently https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ ), we’d love to see a gift economy started where you are. We just need a local volunteer to join us as admin (our entire network is run by volunteers).

If you’re interested in becoming an Admin, please fill out the form you will find on the page in the following link. Once you have done so, the Development Admin for your area will contact you. 42. It’s a great pity this organisation is ony accessible through facebook and twitter.
I will not use social media on principle alone.

    • Hi Edward,

All of the Buy Nothing Project groups use Facebook, yes … and people often ask us why we chose Facebook as our platform for The Buy Nothing Project. 1) It’s free; 2) Most of our friends and neighbors are on Facebook; and 3) It’s transparent. Transparency is the key ingredient to keeping a gift economy sustainable over time.

Though there are some limitations to Facebook, the BNP is a network of groups completely run by Volunteers, without a budget (or time) to put the effort required into developing and maintaining a stand-alone site at this time.

Thanks for your interest in the Project!

      • Hi

It’s Dru Bartlett Doncaster East Victoria I am still waiting for a reply re starting a group in my area. I have sent many messages and did join the blog but have heard nothing. What other avenue can I explore to get a few answers???

      • Hi Drucilla,

I can see your inquiry for a group sent on January 1st. The Development Admin for your Region has sent you an email on February 2nd. If you haven’t found it yet, it may be in your spam folder. Please reply to that email to continue the process.

I hope this finds you well.

        Take Care,
        Stacy

  43. Hello, I don’t use facebook on principle. Is there any other way to participate, like local orgs, or meetup? I live in metro Boston, MA

    • Hi Amy,

If there isn’t a Buy Nothing group yet in your community (check this list which is updated frequently https://buynothingproject.org/find-a-group/ ), we’d love to see a gift economy started where you are. We just need a local volunteer to join us as admin (our entire network is run by volunteers).

If you’re interested in becoming an Admin, please fill out the form you will find on the page in the following link. Once you have done so, the Development Admin for your area will contact you. Please have patience, this process is done in our volunteers’ free time, as such a reply may take some time, but I assure you they will respond. Our Development Team is working diligently through the requests for new groups as quickly as they are able.

Thanks for your interest in our social experiment!

  49. Hello so I live in Villa Park IL & I requested to join the Lombard IL group but I would love to create a Villa Park IL group where I could be the admin. I am already a admin of 3 FB groups & a moderator for another one. I have about 3k FB friends, belong to hundreds of FB groups & I have over 8K connections on LinkedIn, almost 2k followers on Twitter along with 1500 on Instagram.

I really think this could fit well with me as I hate seeing good things trashed or wasted that someone else can use. I am married with 6 kids & active in my church plus community. I also volunteer my time for church & community events. I am very social media savy & could really promote my local group, maybe even using other resources such as nextdoor, Craigslist, offer up, let go, Walla pop, 5miles, close5 plus FB market place. I would love to join the community!!

    All the best,
    Ron Schroeder.

    • Hi Ron,

Thanks for offering your time to the Buy Nothing Project! I can confirm we have received all 3 inquiries for a new group. Although we do value such great enthusiasm, I ask you to lease have patience. This process is done in our volunteers’ free time, as such a reply may take some time, often several weeks or more. I assure you they will respond. Our Development Team is working diligently through the requests for new groups as quickly as they are able.

We look forward to when you are able to join our network of Buy Nothing groups and Admins!
