Behind the Lens: What a "Bike Whisperer" Reminded Me About Storytelling

I haven't shot or edited a short-form video in a long time, but meeting Rob reminded me exactly why I fell in love with storytelling in the first place. This project ended up being a profound experience for me, both creatively and personally.

Sometimes heroes are hiding in plain sight, quietly transforming the world around them through simple acts of service and specialized skill. Within our community, Rob is one of those heroes. He is a survivor of a traumatic brain injury and an "unreasonably patient" individual who finds true joy in reviving old, rusty, and weathered bicycles that local bike shops say aren't worth saving.

Documenting a master at work is a true privilege. Rob meticulously tunes gears, replaces brake pads, tightens headsets, and fixes bottom brackets until each bicycle is ready for a new life. He even tracks his work on strips of masking tape left on the frames, which our members have proudly shared in their app gratitude posts.
